Volcano Myth by Nikita

Volcano Myth

A dark, murky cloud overlapped the sun as it spread across the evening sky. The roar of thunder and flash of lightning ripped through the deadly silence, a black figure emerged from the clouds and fell into the deep blue, the splash sent the body floating up to shore. The body of a girl lay covered in warm sand as the tide pushed rocks to surround her, soon there was no body to be seen. The villages had examined the pile and they realised that the girl that was washed up on shore was the Goddess of love, Athena. The pile of rocks grew and grew and created a beautiful volcano surrounded by nature, the vines grew up to the top while white flowers climbed around them.

A village had been hidden in the shelter of a beautiful forest, fires surrounded the village to keep out intruders but to also keep the villagers warm. Athena had created a lovely home for her people, but like all good things they must come to an end. A fierce storm covered the sky as a flash of lightning hit the chief’s hut, the villagers fled from their homes and scrambled up Mount Athena for cover. Once again a figure fell through the clouds, but this time the body was a boy. Fire surrounded the young boys body as he shot towards the island creating an earthquake, the villages trembled in fear as they climbed down Mount Athena to search the beach for the boy. But as the villagers had reached the bottom of the volcano, the boy was thrust up into another volcano but this time the volcano was covered in fire.

The boy that had fallen was called Ares, also known as the God of war. The villages hid in the trees in fear that another God would fall but no more did. For years the island lived in peace and the villagers rebuilt their houses, until… The trees danced violently in the harsh wind while the beach was overcome by massive waves. The waves grew from the ocean, bigger and bigger until a tsunami had evolved from the smaller waves. As the tsunami collided with Athena, her lava grew weak as the light from the top of her mountain dimmed. She grew weaker each day, as Ares found the meaning of love. His sympathy grew along with his heart, until one day Athena’s light had almost run out because she had been transferring her light into Ares, causing him to feel love. Ares’ heart had finally finished growing as he relit Athena’s too. The two stood happily above the clouds, while Athena sat, proud of herself for showing love to a God of war.
