The Great Legend About Why Volcanoes Erupt.

Pele is known as the God of earthquakes and volcanoes in Hawaiian myths and legends.

One day, billions of years ago, Pele, the God of volcanoes, was having a great day. But then Hades, the God of the underworld, came up to Pele and tricked her into becoming evil!!! As a result, Pele erupted all of the volcanoes! The volcano was vomiting out lava and had flaming boulders bursting out. But when she saw all the innocent people dying right in front of her, she stopped the volcanoes. When Hades found out about this he was furious! He went back to his palace with anger filling him while trying to come up with another plan to make Pele erupt every volcano.

These days volcanoes don’t erupt that often. But hang on you may be wondering why volcanoes still erupt if Pele turned back to being a good God? Well here’s the answer. You know how Hades went back to his palace with anger filling him while trying to come up with another plan to make Pele erupt every volcano with bursting flaming boulders and spewing lava. Well sometimes Pele gets short visits from Hades and every now and then she just snaps and gives in to Hades and erupts one or two volcanoes. But luckily, most of the time Pele doesn’t give in to Hades. Sometimes Pele gets angry and only lava comes out. But for a volcano to  burst out flaming boulders and spewing out lava, she needs to entirely give in to Hades and burst into anger.

I was practising for the triathlon at Jellie Park as I went to get a drink of water, the ground started to wobble. Amelia yelled, “It’s an earthquake!” Lily and Amelia were holding each other as tight as they could, unlike me. I thought it was quite fun and like a ride.

When it stopped I was a bit sad but Amelia and Lily were happy that it had stopped. Lily asked, "What on earth was that?" You may be wondering how she didn’t know what an earthquake was. Well you see, she was too young to remember anything about the earthquakes back in 2011.

We explained to Lily what an earthquake was then Amelia and I went to the Northlands mall with our Dad and the car park sign that said how many cars were in the car park was glitchy! By the way when I say glitchy I mean really glitchy! After that we just carried on with doing normal stuff.
